Game Recap: Cincinnati
Okay, I realize that I have been a little slack keeping the last few weeks of the website updated but the loss of a job (and therefore my DSL connection) has made updating prohibitively slow. I now have a cable line and things were looking up for the update but then we had this massive Ice Storm come through and knock out power, but here I am up and running and talking about the Cincinnati game. Tailgate turnout was lower than usual because over 1,000,000 homes had no power. The game was an ass smacker - Cincy had nothing and we rubbed their noses in their defeat. By the end of the game every single one of their players not on the field were sitting on the bench with their heads hung low. I know, it's only Cincy who will tie our record for going 1-15 this year but still, it was a win. Have faith Panther fans we will only get better. John Fox is taking us where we need to be. See everyone at the final home game of the year!!!
New Orleans Saints
Once again our team played a great 58 minutes and then to the amazement of everyone in attendance decided they really didn't want to win after all. I think they are playing for draft picks but if that's the case they better watch out...Chicago, the Bungles and the Texans are beating us in losses. Remember when Tampa Bay really sucked for a long time? At least we aren't THAT bad. Anyway, enough about the crappy game. We had a great tailgate thanks to Lou's Low Country Boil and all of the other great food. Probably a little over 35 people passed through the party and a good time was had by all. I have to thank Bill at thirddownman.com for providing us with some nice shirts and stickers - we put them to good use and cheered our lungs out for the defense. Party at Skeeter's next weekend!!!
Tampa Bay Bucs
Well, we had one hell of a tailgate this weekend. I didn't take a head count but I would have to say that there were probably 30 - 35 people that came through and had a good time and thanks to Ken and Bill some good eats. Jason, Carrie and I got intot the Halloween Spirit and wore our costumes. Check out the Bucs Game Photo Page for some scary pictures of our adventures. You may notice that I haven't mentioned the Panthers game yet, well just watch high/lowlights from last year - it's all the same. We continue to blow leads and let the other team back in the game with less than a minute to go. It's hard to write about the same old, same old everyweek. Thank God for tailgating!!!
Atlanta Falcons
Oh, Jesus! We got ran over by a frigging locomotive this weekend and his name was Michale Vick. That one guy ran for more yards than our our entire team combined - embarrassing. On to our players: Our offensive line worked as well as wet toilet paper. Dan Morgan & Mark Fields, I sent you some get well flowers and candy, now get your broken asses back out on the field. Wienke - goodbye. Deon Grant, your desire to get interceptions has you getting burned weekly now - other teams have figured you out. Fasani, great running kid now learn to through some complete passes. Ever the optimist I don't see our year completely wasted. I mean we went 1-15 last year so winning 3 games, this is definite progress. On the tailgating scene, our partying continues to be legendary and I give props to the guys down at The Green Room for giving us some good chow and taking care of us on Sunday. See you this weekend at the tailgate!!!
Dallas Cowboys
Well, I'm glad I've been away a few days because I absolutely didn't want to hear any "Jibba Jabba" from Tex the Cowboys fanatic. I had to go out of town on business on Sunday so I watched this game completely sober. Not smart - at least alcohol helps you forget about how angry and disgusted you are after a game. Not me, I had to get in the car and seeth about losing a 13 point lead in about 5 minutes. As soon as I saw Grant miss the interception and saw Dallas score I got a knot in my stomach. I knew we were royally screwed and were going to lose the game. We are now 3 and 3. Time to get our ass in gear and tailgate our way to some victories folks. Buckle down, plan and tailgate our team to the Super Bowl!!! See you after Atlanta.
Arizona Cardinals
Well, that sucked. It was just like old times. Play good then suck in the 4th quarter. Plummer flat out outplayed us in the 4th. That's it. I mean who in the hell would have thought that Peppers would block the ball back into Jake's hands where he would then scramble and complete a pass. Unbelieveable! So we are back to the old days of last year. Fortunately we had a GREAT tailgate. I mean I haven't had that much fun for a while. The food was good, the people were feeling Panther love, Heather brought cool hair paint for all the guys mustaches and goatees. Lock was in his usual rare form and had us all reaching for our handkerchiefs. Now if only our team could play ball!
Hear what I said after I missed!!!

Game Recap: Green Bay Packers
You could have made it. I could have made it. Your little sister could have made it. That field goal was nothing more than a glorified PAT!!! We brought in Opie Taylor to kick in the big leagues and he fell flat on his face. I'm not laying all the blame on him but he is the easiest to pick on. I mean, Peete's 2 fumbles and Dee Browns close-call fumble didn't help matters either. But when you come down to it, Opie had his time to shine and blew it. Guess he'll be headed back for some of Aunt Bee's Pie. On the lighter side, we had a hell of a party at Crazy Dave's house. Food, fun & beer combined with Ray getting hog-tied (check out the pics in the various photos section) meant that we washed our sorrows away. Thanks for the party Dave!
Minnesota Vikings
Do you hear that smack? Well, it's one of a couple things. Either its the reporters smacking Carolina upside the head in the press saying we have now ONLY beaten the 3 worst teams in the NFL (Wait, I thought we were the worst team in the NFL before the season started) or its the Carolina Panthers putting the SMACKDOWN on another team. Or, could it be the sound of the jail cell door closing on Randy Moss' punk ass? Well we "tailgated" at the Yellow Rose at Touchstone and had a great time. Go Panthers!
Detroit Lions
Again I don't have much to say about the game or the tailgate because I was on an 8 hour flight and didn't get in until 3:30pm. But, because I am a fan I went to the tailgate anyway and caught the last 15 minutes of the game on the radio. Julius Peppers is emerging as a bad-ass and Dan Morgan keeps pressure on the line - I love it! The tailgate was wet as hell but Carrie & Jason Powers cooked up some good chicken on the BBQ. The Post-post tailgate party at O'Charlies carried on until 10:00pm and the highlight was Jason paying some little kid to run around the restaurant carrying a Panthers flag yelling "Panthers Won!! Panthers Won!!" - Beautiful.
Baltimore Ravens
I was in Europe for this game but from the 2 columns of print I read it sounded like we squeaked by. Hey, we have tied the number of games we won last year - it's not all bad! I heard the tailgate went well and there was great weather. Lock's Speedies rocked the grill!
Dallas Cowboys
I can't say anything about the game or the tailgate. Really. I didn't see it, I didn't hear it, I barely saw any highlights. While the fans got drenched by rain, I was singing "Strokin" at my sister's wedding. If anyone wants to send me a re-cap talking about the loss of Bates, the 1st string performance, Peppers, or the tailgate I will gladly post it.
Washington Redskins
Well, the more things change the more they stay the same....another come from behind and take the lead only to get your nuts slammed in the door at the last second. And no I'm not talking about Jason's sex life! - I'm talking about the way we blew the game in the last minute of the fourth quarter. Now I'm not counting but I think this makes 9 loses (all under 10 points) in the fourth quarter over the last year. So basically we have new players, a new coach, higher beer prices and we still suck. But now, on to the good news! We had a blast at the tailgate. We screwed the picnic table back together and cleaned off the grill and we are once again ready to roll! Had a nice little cookout and Guido brought enough baked beans to feed the whole 101st Airborne Division and enough gas to frighten Saddam Hussein. All in all I think we are on track and with the addition of Foster to our team I still think we will win at least 6 games. Oh, and with Guido's beans we won't have to worry about any uninvited visitors. Game On!
Fan Fest
Fan Fest was a great time this past weekend. We got to see the new players up close, (except our #1 draft pick Julius Peppers), see cheerleaders (YES!) get some sun and I got to watch Guido pay $2.75 for a cup full of ice! Apparently the concession vendors didn't get the memo saying it was FAN APPRECIATION day. But, hey if you can't get gouged by the home team who can you get gouged by, right? Overall the defense looked acceptable and Weinke seemed to be throwing the ball a lot sharper than he did last year. The running back Foster got a few looks and seemed to run the ball okay. Superbowl bound? Doubtful. Win at least 6 games? I think so.
Remember, the first pre-season game is this weekend when we welcome Steve Spurrier's Washington Redskins to our house. Saturday Night - 7:30 be there!
New England Patriots
Well, our last game was over 7 months ago so the pain has left and at least I can say that our last loss was to the soon to be Superbowl Champions but it just really sucked. The whole season last year sucked week after week. The one thing I kept coming back for though was the tailgate. Let's look forward to one hell of a year under our new coach and even better tailgating!

Balls to the right, Balls to the left...
Okay, In my weekly recap I said anyone could make a 24-yard field goal. After this morning I think I may need to make a little clarification. You see, Peter StOnge of the Charlotte Observer set up a deal at Davidson College where anyone who wanted could come out and kick the ball from the 14 yard line - the same spot that Shayne Graham missed from. When I got there I was feeling pretty good. I first talked to the photographer when I arrived and told him I was there for the Offensive Line tryouts, he just kind of looked at me weird. Then I walked up to the reporter and told him I was an overweight 31 year old who could kick as well as anyone in the NFL. He looked at my sandaled feet and said, "Are you going to kick in those?" "No, I've got my spikes in my backpack. I'm a pro, man." Now, I have never tried kicking a field goal in my life and apparently this was not the best time to start. The first guy up, his name was Ben I think, but he looked like Chris Wienke. I mean when I got to the field I said "Holy Shit! It's Chris Wienke." But, it wasn't. It was just Ben. But Ben was about 27 or 28 and was fit. Well, when Ben kicked, the worms where ducking because his balls did nothing but graze the grass. So, now I'm up. First kick was practice. I stepped back, got a little angle and BAM! Its got the distance, but wide right about 10 feet. Second kick, "This one is for the 230,000 Observer Readers, the photographers ready," said Peter St.Onge. "Right, thanks Peter." I step back, get some angle and BAM! the same damn thing. Good distance, 10 feet right. The final kick was just a sympathy kick to see if I could make it. "No way I am missing this one," I said. More angle to hook it around, and BAM! It's got the distance and "Hell!" four feet wide left! So now, me and Ben the Wienke wannabee have made ourselves look like crap (Ben more so than me, thank God) and we look around and people are lining up. A couple of soccer players were next they made it easily from the 24 so they moved them back a couple times out to about the 35 yard line and they made 2 out of 3. It was impressive but those are soccer geeks for you. All in all I had fun and learned I better stick to the offensive or defensive line. I will say this, I got out kicked by an old man, a girl and some dude in a suit, but you know what? So did Shayne Graham. That's life and that's Football baby! Football!
